From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +54.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of sugary soft drinks increased by 2.5% to X litres, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +81.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sugary soft drink imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +75.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Spain (X litres), Germany (X litres) and Serbia (X litres) were the main suppliers of sugary soft drink imports to Italy, together accounting for 65% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of +67.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sugary soft drink suppliers to Italy were Spain ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X), together accounting for 59% of total imports. Greece, Serbia, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Austria, Romania, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.
Serbia, with a CAGR of +57.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sugary soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 18%. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per litre), while the price for Romania ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
