Truck Market Size in Italy
The Italian truck market declined to $X in 2022, reducing by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 31%. The exports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, truck exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
France (X units), Germany (X units) and the UK (X units) were the main destinations of truck exports from Italy, with a combined 57% share of total exports. Poland, Spain, Belgium, Turkey, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Austria and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for truck exported from Italy were France ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 53% of total exports. Poland, Spain, Slovenia, Turkey, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Austria and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +10.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average truck export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -5.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 5.9% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Slovenia ($X per unit) and the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per unit) and France ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Italy
In 2022, imports of trucks into Italy dropped to X units, shrinking by -11.5% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw a notable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, truck imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X units) constituted the largest truck supplier to Italy, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, truck imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X units), with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey stood at +6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-1.1% per year) and Germany (-0.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest truck suppliers to Italy were Turkey ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. Spain, Poland, Portugal and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
Among the main suppliers, Portugal, with a CAGR of +11.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average truck import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
