These countries were followed by France, Turkey, Tunisia, Slovenia, Romania, Switzerland, Croatia, Israel, Hungary and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 46%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +63.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X), Romania ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight under X g/m² exported from Italy worldwide, with a combined 34% share of total exports. Over the period under review, export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 48%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 31%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
