Antimony Market Size in Japan
In 2022, the Japanese antimony market increased by 12% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of antimony, when their volume decreased by -31.4% to X tons. Overall, exports faced a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 189% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, antimony exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 193%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of antimony exports from Japan, with a combined 67% share of total exports. Thailand, the United States, Indonesia, France and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +46.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for antimony exports from Japan, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +7.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-0.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+1.7% per year).

In 2022, the average antimony export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -10.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 91%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Japan
Antimony imports into Japan declined to X tons in 2022, dropping by -3.9% against 2021. Overall, imports showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, antimony imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 103% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of antimony imports to Japan, together accounting for 89% of total imports. Thailand lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 11%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +40.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the largest antimony suppliers to Japan, with a combined 89% share of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, South Korea, with a CAGR of +43.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average antimony import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 75%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were China ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
