Bottled Water Market Size in Japan

The Japanese bottled water market shrank to $X in 2022, reducing by -6.1% against the previous year. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), China (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) were the main destinations of bottled water exports from Japan, together accounting for 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +28.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) remains the key foreign market for bottled waters exports from Japan, comprising 28% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 11% share.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 24%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bottled water imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 1.3% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The United States (X tons), France (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main suppliers of bottled water imports to Japan, with a combined 86% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Australia (with a CAGR of +100.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
