In value terms, cabbage exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 135%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for cabbage exports from Japan, with a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, cabbage exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hong Kong SAR stood at +21.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+42.2% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.5% per year).
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) remains the key foreign market for cabbage and other brassicas exports from Japan, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cabbage imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a dramatic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main supplier of cabbage to Japan, with a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States (X tons), with a 0.5% share of total imports.
