Other Cereals Market Size in Japan

The Japanese other cereals market fell rapidly to $X in 2021, which is down by -91.8% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, saw resilient growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

For the third year in a row, Japan recorded growth in overseas shipments of other cerealses, which increased by 8.2% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 415% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, other cereals exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 140% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main destinations of other cereals exports from Japan, with a combined 69% share of total exports.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 2,142% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Japan

Other cereals imports into Japan declined remarkably to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -92.3% on 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 1,066% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, other cereals imports dropped notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 148%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Peru (X tons) constituted the largest other cereals supplier to Japan, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, other cereals imports from Peru exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bolivia (X tons), twofold.
