In 2021, the Japanese check valve market decreased by -32.4% to $X for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, saw resilient growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. The exports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X units), the United States (X units) and Thailand (X units) were the main destinations of check valve exports from Japan, with a combined 58% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea, the Philippines, India, Germany, the Czech Republic, Vietnam, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +41.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average check valve export price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, imports of check valves for pipes, boiler shells, tanks and vats into Japan rose sharply to X units, surging by 5.7% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, check valve imports shrank to $X in 2021.
