In 2021, supplies from abroad of chloride oxides and chloride hydroxides of copper and other metals was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chloride oxides of metal imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 95%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) was the main chloride oxides of metal supplier to Japan, with a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, chloride oxides of metal imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), more than tenfold.
