Soft Drink Market Size in Japan

The Japanese soft drink market totaled $X in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a perceptible decline. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of soft drinks exported from Japan skyrocketed to X litres, surging by 16% against 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, soft drink exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Australia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

The average soft drink import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, shrinking by -20.8% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 37%. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
