Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 110%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports from Japan, with a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hong Kong SAR stood at +20.1%.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports from Japan, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Hong Kong SAR totaled +32.5%.
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 66% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR stood at $X per ton.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified decreased by -18.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 45%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 55%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Vietnam (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified to Japan, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Vietnam stood at +12.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-4.9% per year) and China (-4.9% per year).
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified to Japan, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Vietnam amounted to +9.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+0.1% per year) and Thailand (+9.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified import price increased by +59.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
