Overall, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +63.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, metal non-electric bell exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +90.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 49%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Germany (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main destinations of metal non-electric bell exports from Japan, with a combined 66% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), China, Canada and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +29.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for metal non-electric bell exported from Japan were Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and China ($X), together comprising 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Canada, Indonesia and Spain, which together accounted for a further 16%.
Among the main countries of destination, Spain, with a CAGR of +24.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average metal non-electric bell export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -6.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, overseas purchases of non-electric bells and gongs of base metal increased by 9% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, metal non-electric bell imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of metal non-electric bell to Japan, accounting for a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, metal non-electric bell imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (X tons), more than tenfold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (-2.8% per year) and Indonesia (-0.9% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-electric bells and gongs of base metal to Japan, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at -2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+16.6% per year) and Indonesia (-0.5% per year).

In 2021, the average metal non-electric bell import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 5.7%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
