Imports into Japan
In 2022, the amount of primary cells and batteries imported into Japan soared to X units, jumping by 28% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, primary cell and battery imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 13%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest primary cell and battery supplier to Japan, with a 74% share of total imports. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+2.4% per year) and Indonesia (-1.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average primary cell and battery import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -14.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 6.6%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
