Aircraft Propeller Market Size in Japan

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Japanese aircraft propeller market, when its value decreased by -9.9% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Aircraft propeller exports from Japan dropped to X tons in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, exports, however, saw a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 181% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft propeller exports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 393% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and the United States (X kg) were the main destinations of aircraft propeller exports from Japan, together accounting for 90% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +50.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the largest markets for aircraft propeller exported from Japan worldwide, together accounting for 98% of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Japan

In 2022, aircraft propeller imports into Japan fell to X tons, shrinking by -8.9% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aircraft propeller imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of aircraft propeller to Japan, accounting for a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, aircraft propeller imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), twofold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States amounted to -5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+8.7% per year) and Italy (+11.5% per year).

The average aircraft propeller import price stood at $X per kg in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per kg in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per kg), while the price for China ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
