Reclaimed Rubber Market Size in Japan
The Japanese reclaimed rubber market stood at $X in 2021, surging by 8.5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, saw a pronounced slump. Reclaimed rubber consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, overseas shipments of reclaimed rubber were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, exports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 223%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber exports reached $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 138%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main destinations of reclaimed rubber exports from Japan, with a combined 80% share of total exports. Vietnam and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +569.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for reclaimed rubber exported from Japan were China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together accounting for 71% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +496.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average reclaimed rubber export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (-3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Japan
In 2021, reclaimed rubber imports into Japan rose markedly to X tons, surging by 7.9% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), India (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of reclaimed rubber imports to Japan, with a combined 83% share of total imports. South Korea, the United States, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +26.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the largest reclaimed rubber suppliers to Japan, together accounting for 83% of total imports. South Korea, the United States, the Netherlands, Indonesia and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
Among the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +22.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average reclaimed rubber import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
