China (X tons) was the main destination for safes and strongboxes exports from Japan, with a 56% share of total exports. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China totaled -10.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (+20.6% per year) and the United States (+20.0% per year).

In 2021, the average safes and strongboxes export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 24%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Japan
In 2021, purchases abroad of safes, strongboxes and doors of base metal decreased by -6.7% to X tons, falling for the fifth consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, safes and strongboxes imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons), China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of safes and strongboxes imports to Japan, with a combined 80% share of total imports. Mexico, Taiwan (Chinese) and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +119.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
