Milled rice exports from Japan amounted to X tons in 2018, waning by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, milled rice exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), China, Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) were the main destinations of milled rice exports from Japan, together accounting for X% of total exports. Congo, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Taiwan, Chinese, the U.S., Mali, Guinea, Singapore and Democratic Republic of the Congo lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the U.S. (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China, Hong Kong SAR ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Cabo Verde ($X) constituted the largest markets for milled rice exported from Japan worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Congo, Taiwan, Chinese, the U.S., Burkina Faso, Mali, Singapore, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Guinea, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Rwanda recorded the highest growth rate of market size, over the period under review, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average milled rice export price stood at $X per ton in 2018, going up by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price indicated a prominent increase from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, milled rice export price decreased by -X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. In that year, the average export prices for semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice attained their peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average export prices for semi-milled or wholly milled (bleached) rice remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cabo Verde, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2018, the milled rice imports into Japan totaled X tons, increasing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the total imports indicated measured growth from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, milled rice imports reached their peak and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.
