In general, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +41.8% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +53.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 34%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main destinations of sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports from Japan, with a combined 72% share of total exports. The United States, Vietnam, South Korea and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +55.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
