Organic Pigments Market Size in Japan

The Japanese organic pigments market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, the average organic pigments export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -5.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+20.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. China (X tons), India (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) were the main suppliers of organic pigments imports to Japan, together comprising 79% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and the United States, which together accounted for a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +11.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
