In value terms, wheat imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +70.2% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The United States (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main suppliers of wheat imports to Japan, with a combined 100% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Canada (with a CAGR of +2.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest wheat suppliers to Japan were the United States ($X), Canada ($X) and Australia ($X), with a combined 100% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Canada, with a CAGR of +4.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average wheat import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wheat import price increased by +61.7% against 2018 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the price for Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
