Yams Market Size in Japan

The Japanese yams market declined modestly to $X in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, yams production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a pronounced downturn. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main destinations of yams exports from Japan, with a combined 92% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 6.5%.

Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, yams imports surged to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X.
