As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 489% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports from Jordan, with a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, India (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Saudi Arabia totaled +85.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (0.0% per year) and Kuwait (+65.3% per year).
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports from Jordan, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Saudi Arabia amounted to +60.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (0.0% per year) and Kuwait (+52.4% per year).

The average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -14.3% against the previous year. Imports into Jordan
In 2022, the amount of anise, badian, fennel and coriander imported into Jordan plummeted to X tons, falling by -40.3% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of anise, badian, fennel and coriander to Jordan, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports from Syrian Arab Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Syrian Arab Republic totaled -2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+22.5% per year) and Egypt (-9.2% per year).
In value terms, Syrian Arab Republic ($X) constituted the largest supplier of anise, badian, fennel and coriander to Jordan, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Syrian Arab Republic stood at +2.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+30.2% per year) and Egypt (-1.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $X per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, anise, badian, fennel and coriander import price increased by +113.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
