Apricot Market Size in Jordan
The Jordanian apricot market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, picking up by 67% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a buoyant expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Apricot Production in Jordan
In value terms, apricot production rose slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -4.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 38% against the previous year. Apricot production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In 2022, the average yield of apricots in Jordan fell slightly to X tons per ha, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the yield indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, apricot yield increased by +1.3% against 2020 indices. Exports from Jordan
In 2022, the amount of apricots exported from Jordan shrank significantly to X tons, declining by -44% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 230%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, apricot exports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 251%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for apricot exports from Jordan, accounting for a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, apricot exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kuwait (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Oman (X tons), with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Saudi Arabia totaled +11.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (+8.3% per year) and Oman (+9.8% per year).
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for apricots exports from Jordan, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Saudi Arabia totaled +6.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (+3.5% per year) and Oman (+4.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average apricot export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -9.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 45% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Oman ($X per ton) and Iraq ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Syrian Arab Republic (+29.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Apricot Imports
Imports into Jordan
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of apricots decreased by -34.9% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 2,942% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, apricot imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 1,933% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of apricot to Jordan, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, apricot imports from Syrian Arab Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), threefold. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Syrian Arab Republic amounted to +2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-8.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-7.8% per year).
In value terms, the largest apricot suppliers to Jordan were Syrian Arab Republic ($X), South Africa ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 83% of total imports. These countries were followed by Lebanon, which accounted for a further 17%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Lebanon, with a CAGR of -4.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
The average apricot import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
