After two years of growth, the Jordanian butter and dairy spreads market decreased by -12.5% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, butter and dairy spreads imports into Jordan contracted sharply to X tons, dropping by -27.6% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 32%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Denmark (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and New Zealand (X tons) were the main suppliers of butter and dairy spreads imports to Jordan, with a combined 50% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Ukraine, Turkey, Argentina, Belgium and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +20.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and dairy spreads import price increased by +68.3% against 2016 indices.
