Carrot and turnip production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
In 2022, the average yield of carrots and turnips in Jordan fell slightly to X tons per ha, dropping by -2.6% on 2021. Exports from Jordan
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of carrots and turnips, when their volume decreased by -62.7% to X tons. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 539% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, carrot and turnip exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 612% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Lebanon (X tons) was the main destination for carrot and turnip exports from Jordan, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, carrot and turnip exports to Lebanon exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Lebanon totaled -9.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-26.8% per year) and Bahrain (-8.5% per year).
In value terms, Lebanon ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for carrots and turnips exports from Jordan, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 7.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Lebanon totaled -3.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-25.2% per year) and Bahrain (-8.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average carrot and turnip export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 4.4% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Jordan
For the fifth consecutive year, Jordan recorded decline in purchases abroad of carrots and turnips, which decreased by -53.3% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a sharp decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 5.9%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, carrot and turnip imports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of carrot and turnip to Jordan, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, carrot and turnip imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), ninefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States stood at +6.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Syrian Arab Republic (0.0% per year) and Lebanon (-39.4% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of carrots and turnips to Jordan, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Syrian Arab Republic ($X), with a 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States totaled +9.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Syrian Arab Republic (0.0% per year) and Lebanon (-34.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average carrot and turnip import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.4% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, carrot and turnip import price increased by +71.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 45%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lebanon (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
