Contact Lense Market Size in Jordan

In 2022, the Jordanian contact lense market increased by 14% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Contact lense consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of contact lenses decreased by -65.7% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 2,224%. The exports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, contact lense exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 275%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Israel (X units) was the main destination for contact lense exports from Jordan, accounting for a 85% share of total exports. Moreover, contact lense exports to Israel exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kuwait (X units), sixfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Israel stood at +11.2%.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the key foreign market for contact lenses exports from Jordan, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average contact lense export price amounted to $X per unit, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 718% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Kuwait stood at $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Libya (+98.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Jordan

Contact lense imports into Jordan rose remarkably to X units in 2022, surging by 15% compared with the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, contact lense imports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Ireland (X units), the United States (X units) and South Korea (X units) were the main suppliers of contact lense imports to Jordan, together comprising 50% of total imports. The UK, Brazil, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +71.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest contact lense suppliers to Jordan were Ireland ($X), the United States ($X) and South Korea ($X), together accounting for 50% of total imports. The UK, Brazil, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.

Among the main suppliers, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +59.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average contact lense import price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 7.3% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Italy ($X per unit) and the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) and Brazil ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
