Fig Market Size in Jordan

Free Zones (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) were the main destinations of fig exports from Jordan, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Kuwait, Turkey and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +57.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 147%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Bahrain ($X per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Free Zones ($X per ton) and Qatar ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Jordan

In 2022, overseas purchases of figs increased by 4.7% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 111%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fig imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 150% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) was the main fig supplier to Jordan, with a 98% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain (X tons), with a 2.2% share of total imports.
