Honey Market Size in Jordan

After three years of growth, the Jordanian honey market decreased by -22.1% to $X in 2022. In general, the total consumption indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Honey consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.

Honey Production in Jordan

In value terms, honey production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -0.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 57%. Honey production peaked at $X in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports from Jordan

In 2022, overseas shipments of honey decreased by -66.2% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 418%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, honey exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 458% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Yemen (X tons), Free Zones (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of honey exports from Jordan, together accounting for 80% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Yemen (with a CAGR of +507.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for honey exports from Jordan, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Yemen ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Free Zones, with a 19% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United Arab Emirates stood at +39.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (+630.4% per year) and Free Zones (+18.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average honey export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 108%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Free Zones ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+34.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Honey Imports

Imports into Jordan

In 2022, overseas purchases of honey decreased by -33.3% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 56%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, honey imports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 44%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of honey to Jordan, with a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, honey imports from Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X tons), with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Saudi Arabia stood at +6.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+10.8% per year) and Egypt (-9.7% per year).

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of honey to Jordan, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Saudi Arabia stood at +1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+3.2% per year) and Egypt (-6.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average honey import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 1.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 27%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($X per ton) and Lebanon ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
