Maize Market Size in Jordan
The Jordanian maize market rose modestly to $X in 2022, with an increase of 4.5% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, posted a strong expansion. Maize Production in Jordan

In 2022, the maize harvested area in Jordan was estimated at X ha, stabilizing at 2021 figures. Overall, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. Exports from Jordan
In 2022, approx. X tons of maize (green) were exported from Jordan; picking up by 4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 77%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, maize exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 35% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Israel (X tons) was the main destination for maize exports from Jordan, with a 39% share of total exports. Moreover, maize exports to Israel exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), twofold. Qatar (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Israel stood at +75.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+31.1% per year) and Qatar (+34.8% per year).
In value terms, Israel ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for maize (green) exports from Jordan, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Qatar, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Israel amounted to +86.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-14.0% per year) and Qatar (+36.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average maize export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 22% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+21.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Jordan
In 2022, overseas purchases of maize (green) increased by 3.5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 3,101%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, maize imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 2,565% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Bangladesh (X tons) constituted the largest maize supplier to Jordan, with a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, maize imports from Bangladesh exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), sixfold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bangladesh stood at +53.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+1.2% per year) and Spain (+9.3% per year).
In value terms, Bangladesh ($X) constituted the largest supplier of maize (green) to Jordan, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Bangladesh stood at +62.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-1.8% per year) and Spain (+7.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average maize import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 62%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Bangladesh ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) and Morocco ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
