Market Size for Meat of Camels and Other Animals in Jordan

The Jordanian market for meat of camels and other animals declined modestly to $X in 2022, waning by -2.2% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 9,209%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for camel and other animal meat exports from Jordan, with a 92% share of total exports. Moreover, camel and other animal meat exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lebanon (X kg), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Saudi Arabia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lebanon (+1,463.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-29.4% per year).

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for meat of camels and other animals exports from Jordan, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lebanon ($X), with a 3.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Saudi Arabia amounted to +3.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lebanon (+1,620.9% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-28.5% per year).

In general, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lebanon (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Jordan

In 2022, camel and other animal meat imports into Jordan expanded remarkably to X kg, growing by 10% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 223% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 512% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
