Olive Market Size in Jordan

The Jordanian olive market stood at $X in 2022, rising by 7% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Olive consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Olive Production in Jordan

In value terms, olive production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 108%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

The average yield of olives in Jordan amounted to X tons per ha in 2022, leveling off at 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the yield indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, olive yield decreased by -22.4% against 2019 indices. In 2022, the amount of olives exported from Jordan fell significantly to X tons, waning by -61.6% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 6,161% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, olive exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 16,371%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Israel (X tons) was the main destination for olive exports from Jordan, accounting for a 85% share of total exports. Moreover, olive exports to Israel exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Oman (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Israel totaled +1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+56.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-8.1% per year).

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the key foreign market for olives exports from Jordan, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 2.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Israel amounted to +6.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+38.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-17.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average olive export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a tangible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 163% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Jordan

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of olives decreased by -10.3% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 5,394%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, olive imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 3,753% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) was the main olive supplier to Jordan, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at +16.2%.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of olives to Jordan.
