In value terms, onion and shallot exports reached $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 301%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Qatar (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of onion and shallot exports from Jordan, with a combined 89% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +97.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for onion and shallot exported from Jordan were Qatar ($X), Bahrain ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together comprising 89% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Bahrain, with a CAGR of +84.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Oman ($X per ton) and Lebanon ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($X per ton) and Qatar ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lebanon (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Jordan
For the fourth consecutive year, Jordan recorded decline in overseas purchases of onions and shallots, which decreased by 0% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 213% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, onion and shallot imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a sharp descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 299% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
