Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, paper and paperboard exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 2,317% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for paper and paperboard exports from Jordan, with a 61% share of total exports. Moreover, paper and paperboard exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Free Zones (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Saudi Arabia totaled +60.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Free Zones (-20.0% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for paper and paperboard (creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated) exports from Jordan, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Free Zones ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Syrian Arab Republic, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Saudi Arabia stood at +59.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Free Zones (-11.8% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (0.0% per year).

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Palestine (+15.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Jordan
In 2022, overseas purchases of paper and paperboard (creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated) decreased by -34.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 147% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, paper and paperboard imports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 81%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons) constituted the largest paper and paperboard supplier to Jordan, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, paper and paperboard imports from Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Saudi Arabia totaled -16.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+60.6% per year) and China (+26.3% per year).
