From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Lebanon was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (0.0% per year) and Bahrain (-79.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average quince export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 32% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt contraction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Syrian Arab Republic (-7.8%).
Quince Imports
Imports into Jordan
In 2022, purchases abroad of quinces decreased by -22% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 212% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, quince imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 348% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Greece (X tons) constituted the largest quince supplier to Jordan, with a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, quince imports from Greece exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Lebanon (X tons), sevenfold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Greece totaled +50.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lebanon (+28.6% per year) and Turkey (-13.8% per year).
In value terms, Greece ($X) constituted the largest supplier of quinces to Jordan, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lebanon ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Greece amounted to +53.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lebanon (+32.4% per year) and Turkey (-11.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average quince import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 43% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Lebanon ($X per ton) and Greece ($X per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
