In 2022, the average watermelon export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 27% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, watermelon export price increased by +67.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 46% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Oman ($X per ton) and Bahrain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($X per ton) and Qatar ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2022, Lebanon (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of watermelon to Jordan, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, watermelon imports from Lebanon exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), sevenfold. Egypt (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Lebanon stood at -13.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Syrian Arab Republic (-45.6% per year) and Egypt (-42.3% per year).

In value terms, Lebanon ($X) constituted the largest supplier of watermelons to Jordan, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Syrian Arab Republic, with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Lebanon stood at -3.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (-30.8% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (-42.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average watermelon import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 60%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
