Cork Article Market Size in Kazakhstan

The Kazakh cork article market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, picking up by 47% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a perceptible descent. Cork article consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Kazakhstan

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of cork articles, when their volume decreased by -3.3% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 295% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, cork article exports fell sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 282% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then plummeted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kyrgyzstan (X tons) was the main destination for cork article exports from Kazakhstan, accounting for a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, cork article exports to Kyrgyzstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X kg), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kyrgyzstan stood at +63.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+29.3% per year) and Russia (+30.1% per year).

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for cork articles exports from Kazakhstan, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Kyrgyzstan totaled +83.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+30.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+42.7% per year).

In 2021, the average cork article export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -30.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 59%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kazakhstan

In 2021, overseas purchases of cork articles increased by 45% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cork article imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 50%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of cork article imports to Kazakhstan, with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Serbia, Poland, Lithuania, Spain, Estonia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 3.8%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +15.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest cork article suppliers to Kazakhstan were Portugal ($X), Russia ($X) and Poland ($X), together comprising 56% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Serbia, Lithuania, Belarus, Spain and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 3.4%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Serbia, with a CAGR of +18.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average cork article import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 54% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
