Beryl Market Size in Kazakhstan

In 2021, the Kazakh beryl market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2013, thus ending a seven-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, saw a deep slump. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Kazakhstan

After five years of growth, shipments abroad of beryl decreased by -61.5% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 176%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, beryl exports shrank notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

China (X tons) was the main destination for beryl exports from Kazakhstan, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, beryl exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), threefold.

The average beryl export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 89% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a dramatic descent. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+100.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
