Chlorides Market Size in Kazakhstan

The Kazakh chlorides market declined sharply to $X in 2021, waning by -17.6% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Kazakhstan

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) increased by 528% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 2,450%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 3,656% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Turkmenistan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main destinations of chlorides exports from Kazakhstan, with a combined 98% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkmenistan (with a CAGR of +95.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for chlorides exported from Kazakhstan were Turkmenistan ($X), Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X), together comprising 99% of total exports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +137.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average chlorides export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 56% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+52.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Kazakhstan

In 2021, the amount of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) imported into Kazakhstan plummeted to X tons, declining by -31.1% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 80% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chlorides imports declined slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -37.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides to Kazakhstan, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorides imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (X tons), sixfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia stood at -3.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iran (-19.0% per year) and China (+1.8% per year).

In value terms, France ($X), Russia ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest chlorides suppliers to Kazakhstan, with a combined 84% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Iran and India, which together accounted for a further 11%.

India, with a CAGR of +34.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average chlorides import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 41% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, chlorides import price increased by +75.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+23.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
