Honey Market Size in Kazakhstan

The Kazakh honey market contracted to $X in 2022, dropping by -7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +9.2% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, honey production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +8.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 74%. Honey production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Kazakhstan

In 2022, shipments abroad of honey decreased by -70.9% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 242% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, honey exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 209%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

China (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of honey exports from Kazakhstan, together accounting for 90% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +40.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for honey exported from Kazakhstan were Saudi Arabia ($X), China ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X), together comprising 79% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +28.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Kazakhstan

In 2022, purchases abroad of honey decreased by -32.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 186%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, honey imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 221%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the main honey supplier to Kazakhstan, with a 99% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), with a 1.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia amounted to +14.6%.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of honey to Kazakhstan, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 2.2% share of total imports.

From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
