Uzbekistan (X tons) was the main destination for iron and steel wire exports from Kazakhstan, with a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, iron and steel wire exports to Uzbekistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Ukraine (X tons), with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Uzbekistan stood at +47.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-1.5% per year) and Ukraine (+971.3% per year).
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the key foreign market for iron and steel wire exports from Kazakhstan, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Uzbekistan stood at +42.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-7.2% per year) and Ukraine (+984.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2020, the average iron and steel wire export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Kazakhstan
In 2020, the amount of iron and steel wire imported into Kazakhstan stood at X tons, increasing by 7% against 2019. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, iron and steel wire imports dropped to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 37%.
