Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 169% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, motor vehicle engine imports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 205%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons), Japan (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of motor vehicle engine imports to Kazakhstan, together accounting for 60% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, China and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 37%.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
