In 2021, exports of non-wheat flours from Kazakhstan amounted to X tons, remaining stable against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, showed a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 156% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 249%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkmenistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat flour exports from Kazakhstan, together comprising 88% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkmenistan (with a CAGR of +67.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X), Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Tajikistan ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for non-wheat flour exported from Kazakhstan worldwide, with a combined 86% share of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Turkmenistan, with a CAGR of +65.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average non-wheat flour export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-wheat flour export price increased by +64.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 38%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Non-Wheat Flour Imports
Imports into Kazakhstan
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of non-wheat flours, when their volume decreased by -4.4% to X tons. In general, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 139% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports dropped slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 54%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the main supplier of non-wheat flour to Kazakhstan, accounting for a 98% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine (X tons), with a 0.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia stood at +14.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+2.6% per year) and Belarus (-32.2% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-wheat flours to Kazakhstan, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Russia stood at +12.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+1.9% per year) and Belarus (-31.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-wheat flour import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 53% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
