Pear Market Size in Kazakhstan

The Kazakh pear market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, jumping by 51% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, pear production expanded notably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 12,440%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pear exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 7,268% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2020, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas purchases of pears increased by 109% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports enjoyed a notable increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, pear imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pear to Kazakhstan, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, pear imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Belgium totaled +40.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+21.0% per year) and China (+19.2% per year).

In value terms, Belgium ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest pear suppliers to Kazakhstan, with a combined 82% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Among the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +36.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average pear import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -7.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 12%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
