Perfume Market Size in Kazakhstan

The Kazakh perfume market declined modestly to $X in 2022, waning by -3.5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Kazakhstan

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of perfumes and toilet waters, when their volume decreased by -23.6% to X tons. In general, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 460% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, perfume exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 459% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for perfume exports from Kazakhstan, accounting for a 67% share of total exports. Moreover, perfume exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kyrgyzstan (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia totaled +79.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+1.0% per year) and Kuwait (+22.5% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for perfumes and toilet waters exports from Kazakhstan, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia totaled +89.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (-3.4% per year) and Kuwait (+31.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average perfume export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 41% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, perfume export price increased by +80.7% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Perfume Imports

Imports into Kazakhstan

In 2022, perfume imports into Kazakhstan dropped remarkably to X tons, reducing by -24.5% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, perfume imports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of perfume imports to Kazakhstan, with a combined 63% share of total imports. France, Turkey, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +23.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest perfume suppliers to Kazakhstan were France ($X), Russia ($X) and Poland ($X), together accounting for 65% of total imports. The United States, China, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +29.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average perfume import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 41% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
