The average yield of plums and sloes in Kazakhstan dropped modestly to X tons per ha in 2022, falling by -2.8% compared with the previous year. In general, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the yield increased by 22%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plum and sloe exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 234%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons) was the main destination for plum and sloe exports from Kazakhstan, with a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan (X kg), with a 0.3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia stood at -1.7%.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for plums and sloes exports from Kazakhstan, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 0.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia was relatively modest.
Export Prices by Country
The average plum and sloe export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 16%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+0.9%).

Imports into Kazakhstan
In 2022, purchases abroad of plums and sloes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 119%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plum and sloe imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, faced a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) was the main plum and sloe supplier to Kazakhstan, accounting for a 90% share of total imports. Moreover, plum and sloe imports from Uzbekistan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Tajikistan (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), with a 0.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Uzbekistan amounted to +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tajikistan (+2.9% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-49.5% per year).
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plums and sloes to Kazakhstan, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tajikistan ($X), with a 4.6% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 0.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Uzbekistan stood at +3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Tajikistan (-5.0% per year) and China (-35.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plum and sloe import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -28.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
