Exports from Kazakhstan

Sparkling wine exports from Kazakhstan shrank sharply to X litres in 2022, which is down by -37.7% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 11,705%. The exports peaked at X litres in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, sparkling wine exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 5,479%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kyrgyzstan (X litres) was the main destination for sparkling wine exports from Kazakhstan, accounting for a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, sparkling wine exports to Kyrgyzstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X litres), fivefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Kyrgyzstan stood at +1,680.2%.

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for sparkling wine exports from Kazakhstan, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 7.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Kyrgyzstan totaled +788.1%.

Export Prices by Country

The average sparkling wine export price stood at $X per litre in 2022, dropping by -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 47%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to China amounted to $X per litre.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (-12.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of sparkling wine, when their volume decreased by -11.1% to X litres. Overall, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +28.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 69%. Imports peaked at X litres in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, sparkling wine imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 133% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X litres) constituted the largest sparkling wine supplier to Kazakhstan, accounting for a 30% share of total imports. Moreover, sparkling wine imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X litres), twofold. Moldova (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+20.8% per year) and Moldova (-19.5% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Russia ($X) were the largest sparkling wine suppliers to Kazakhstan, with a combined 38% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +37.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sparkling wine import price amounted to $X per litre, reducing by -19.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 70%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre, and then dropped notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per litre), while the price for Ukraine ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
