Exports from Kazakhstan

Truck exports from Kazakhstan skyrocketed to X units in 2022, picking up by 21% on 2021. In general, exports saw perceptible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 225%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, truck exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 144%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X units) was the main destination for truck exports from Kazakhstan, accounting for a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, truck exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uzbekistan (X units), more than tenfold. Turkmenistan (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia stood at +61.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+9.1% per year) and Turkmenistan (-11.9% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for trucks exports from Kazakhstan, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at +51.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (-3.1% per year) and Belarus (-24.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average truck export price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -32.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 85% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kazakhstan

In 2022, approx. X units of trucks were imported into Kazakhstan; which is down by -17.7% against the year before. Overall, imports saw a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, truck imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X units), China (X units) and Thailand (X units) were the main suppliers of truck imports to Kazakhstan, with a combined 68% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Lithuania and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +15.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest truck suppliers to Kazakhstan were Russia ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 64% of total imports. Belarus, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +16.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average truck import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 44% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while the price for Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
