Uncooked Pasta Market Size in Kazakhstan

The Kazakh uncooked pasta market surged to $X in 2021, increasing by 51% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible decline. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, uncooked pasta production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of uncooked pasta decreased by -30.1% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, uncooked pasta exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 79%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) were the main destinations of uncooked pasta exports from Kazakhstan, with a combined 74% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, China and Afghanistan, which together accounted for a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +46.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for uncooked pasta exported from Kazakhstan worldwide, together comprising 77% of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, China and Afghanistan, which together accounted for a further 21%.

China, with a CAGR of +39.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average uncooked pasta export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Kazakhstan

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of uncooked pasta, when their volume decreased by -27.3% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 84%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, uncooked pasta imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest uncooked pasta supplier to Kazakhstan, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, uncooked pasta imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), fourfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia totaled +22.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+8.9% per year) and China (+7.6% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta to Kazakhstan, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Russia amounted to +21.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+6.8% per year) and China (+5.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average uncooked pasta import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 18%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
