Exports by Country
Russia (X tons) was the main destination for walnut exports from Kazakhstan, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, walnut exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkey (X kg), ninefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia amounted to -21.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-10.9% per year) and Uzbekistan (-49.9% per year).

The average walnut export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 90% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+81.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kazakhstan
In 2021, walnut imports into Kazakhstan soared to X tons, increasing by 17% against 2020. Overall, imports showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 1,826% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, walnut imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 1,532%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of walnut to Kazakhstan, with a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, walnut imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Estonia (X tons), fourfold.
