The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 541%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Tanzania (X tons) was the main destination for albumins and albuminates exports from Kenya, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, albumins and albuminates exports to Tanzania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Somalia (X kg), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Burundi (X kg), with a 3.3% share.

In value terms, Tanzania ($X) remains the key foreign market for albumins, albuminates and other derivatives (excluding egg albumin) exports from Kenya, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burundi ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Rwanda, with a 9.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Tanzania stood at +41.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (0.0% per year) and Rwanda (+32.6% per year).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+50.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Kenya
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of albumins, albuminates and other derivatives (excluding egg albumin) increased by 125% to X kg in 2021. Overall, imports posted a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 159%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, albumins and albuminates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 214%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the UK (X kg) constituted the largest albumins and albuminates supplier to Kenya, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, albumins and albuminates imports from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X kg), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Swaziland (X kg), with a 4.6% share.
